PUBLIC HUSTLE
Brennen Nading - Kansas - November 27, 2022

I was lucky enough to draw an archery tag in Kansas for the second year in a row. Shortly after the draw results came out, I began scouting new ground in the area where I had ended up killing my buck last year. During the early fall I put boots on the ground to learn more about the spots. I was excited to return in November during the rut. For those of you that have never hunted Kansas, it's a whole different type of hunting. The open terrain allows for a hunter to see a long way in most cases. For that reason, I planned to pack a decoy and the antlers to every spot we hunted. After 6 days of jumping around and hunting different spots with very little action to speak of, I glassed up 2 good bucks out in a cut corn field with some does on a piece of public. Midday, JP and I headed in to hang a set and sit for the rest of the day. Sure enough, deer started piling onto the field as the afternoon progressed. It didn't take long and a couple of good bucks were in the mix. After a couple of attempts at calling to them, curiosity got the best of one of them and he came to 15 yards. That was his final mistake.
